THE M2
CONNECTION
Located about 30 kilometres
north-west of Sydney, the Baulkham Hills shire
is one of the largest local government areas in
urban New South Wales. Suburbs include Annangrove,
Castle Hill, Dural, Glenhaven, Kellyville, Kenthurst,
West Pennant Hills, Baulkham Hills and Winston
Hills.
With direct access to
Sydney's central business district via the M2
Motorway (approximately 30 minutes), the Hills
District has a diverse mix of residential options
for home buyers - quality urban estates, small
acreages, bushland blocks and farms.
The population of 130,000
is projected to grow to 180,000 by 2021. And,
with 53 primary schools, 24 secondary schools,
one TAFE college and numerous pre-schools and
kindergartens, the Hills shire is very appealing
for buyers of family homes.
Recently, many companies
relocated to the shire's new industrial and business
areas, including the world standard Norwest Business
Park (a 200-hectare, fully serviced, light-industrial,
business and office development) and Castle Hill
Trading Zone (a 125-hectare, fully serviced, light-industrial
development). The information-technology sector,
other hi-tech and pharmaceutical industries have
a strong presence, with a number of major international
companies based in this area.
The shire retains significant
rural industries, including tree crops, nurseries,
flowers, fruit and vegetables. Several large retailing
and commercial areas such as Stockland Mall and
the greatly expanded shopping centre, Castle Towers,
service residents.
Castle Hill, at the junction
of Old Northern Road and Showground Road, is at
the centre of the Hills District and boasts Sydney's
largest cinema complex, which has 16 screens,
an open-air entertainment area and many restaurants
with outdoor dining.
Since the opening of
the M2, access to the Hills District has radically
changed, and house prices have risen accordingly.
Large family houses with swimming pools are common
in the residential estates where the feeling is
safe and neighbourly.
New homes on acreages
are also popular.
